Researching Your Story
Museum of Bronx History
3266 Bainbridge Avenue
Join genealogist and family historian Andrea Butler Ramsey for a personal tale of family research as she shares the challenges and rewards of investigating her West-Indian immigrant roots. Follow her research trail primarily from the archives in Barbados to The Bronx and be inspired to investigate your own family story. BCHS Educator Angel Hernandez will also share tips on genealogical resources available at BCHS, particularly those important for researching the stories of African American families in The Bronx.
Ms. Andrea Butler Ramsey has spent most of her lifetime as a Bronx resident. She attributes stories told to her by her maternal grandmother, from the island of Barbados, as her inspiration and what peaked her interest in family history and genealogy. She is a member of the National Chapter of the Afro-American Historical Genealogical Society (AAHGS) and the local Jean-Sampson - Scott Greater New York Chapter. She served as the chairperson of the AAHGS-NY Caribbean Committee and is a member of the Writers Group. She has given presentations at the Latter Day Saints New York and Queens Family History Centers, at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. , the New York Public Library and New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.
